Impeachment Inquiry
A Phone Call Between President Trump & President Zelensky, President Of Ukraine
By: Callum M

The potential illegal phone call that caused this whole commotion sure did trigger big public aggression against Trump. But is it enough to convince some loyal Trump fans that he’s not all they think? First, we have to take a closer look at this phone call.

A July 25th phone call between Volodymyr Zlensky the President of Ukraine. This phone call between the two was released by the White House, which was ordered by President Trump under pressure. The phone call lasted for 20 minutes

President Donald Trump congratulates the president of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky on his presidential victory, “Congratulations on a great victory. We all watched from the United States and you did a terrific job. The way you came from behind, somebody who wasn't given much of a chance, and you ended up winning easily. It's a fantastic achievement. Congratulations.” Most think of this statement made by Donald Trump is him attempting to start a quid pro quo relationship with President Zelensky.

President Zelensky says, “You are absolutely right Mr. President. We did win big and we worked hard for this. We worked a lot but I would like to confess to you that I had an opportunity to learn from you. We used quite a few of your skills and knowledge and were able to use it as an example for our elections and yes it is true that these were unique elections. We were in a unique situation that we were able to achieve a unique success. I'm able to tell you the following; the first time you called me to congratulate me when I won my presidential election, and the second time you are now calling me when my party won the parliamentary election. I think I should run more often so you can call me more often and we can talk over the phone more often.”

President Donald Trump, “(laughter) That's a very good idea. I think your country is very happy about that.”

President Zelensky, “ Well yes, to tell you the truth, we are trying to work hard because we wanted to drain the swamp here in our country. We brought in many many new people. Not the old politicians, not the typical politicians, because we want to have a new format and a new type of government. You are a great teacher for us and in that.”

President Trump states the following, “Well it is very nice of you to say that. I will say that we do a lot for Ukraine. We spend a lot of effort and a lot of time. Much more than the European countries are doing and they should be helping you more than they are. Germany does almost nothing for you. All they do is talk and I think it's something that you should really ask them about. When I was speaking to Angela Merkel she talks to Ukraine, but she doesn't do anything. A lot of the European countries are the same way so I think it's something you want to look at but the United States has been very very good to Ukraine. I wouldn't say that it's reciprocal necessarily because things are happening that are not good but the United States has been very very good to Ukraine.” This is evidence of president Trump attempting to start a quid pro quo relationship with President Zelensky. As Donald Trump states in the phone call, “I will say we do a lot for Ukraine.” What President Donald Trump is saying is that America has done a lot for you since we’ve helped you with your problems, you can help us, repay us. And us Trump states the following, we can clearly see that he is attempting to ask President Zelensky for help or as Trump puts it, a “favor”, “I would like you to do us like you to find out what happened with this whole situation with Ukraine, they say Crowdstrike... In favor though because our country has been through a lot and Ukraine knows a lot about it. I would guess you have one of your wealthy people... The server, says Ukraine has it. There are a lot of things that went on, the whole situation. I think you're surrounding yourself with some of the same people. I would like to have the Attorney General call you or your people and I would like you to get to the bottom of it. As you saw yesterday, that whole nonsense ended with a very poor performance by a man named Robert Mueller, an incompetent performance, but they say a lot of it started with Ukraine. Whatever you can do, it's very important that you do it if that's possible.” That chunk of text tells us the real reason why Trump calls President Zelensky in the first place, and that reason being, for a “favor” as President Trump calls it.

Hong Kong Protects: Xi vows attempts to split China will 'end in crushed bodies and shattered bones'
By: Shuyue W

Hong Kong independence advocates nearly became the top topics of China’s news. According to Joshua Berlinger, at CNN, the Chinese president, Xi when having a state visit to Nepal warned the adversaries on Sunday, Oct.13 that any attempt to split China will "end in crushed bodies and shattered bones, according to state media.

"Anyone attempting separatist activities in any part of China will be crushed and any external force backing such attempts will be deemed by the Chinese people as pipe-dreaming,"

Even though Xi did not say “Hong Kong” in his sentence, but he mentioned “separators” and “external forces” which are the words that previously used in Beijing when talking about the protests in some others semi-autonomous Chinese city.

Demonstrations in Hong Kong continued Sunday, Oct.13, but were smaller than the events happened before. Though many of the protests are still peaceful, the number of violent incidents has still increased. One of the police spokespeople reported that officers had discovered an improvised explosive device on Oct.13 night on Nathan Road, one of the city's busiest roads. Some incidents were caught on video, including one showing what appears to be a protester stabbing an officer in the neck with what police called a "sharp-edged object, according to WIBC.

According to CNN world news, two prominent US lawmakers -- Senators Ted Cruz and Josh Hawley were in Hong Kong as protests continued throughout the weekend, Oct.12 and Oct.13 to voice their choice, supporting the movement.

Hawley likened this movement to the fight against Communism in East Germany during the Cold War.

"Sometimes, the fate of one city determines the challenge of a whole posterity or generation in the city. Fifty years ago it was Berlin, today it's Hong Kong," he said in a video filmed in front of Hong Kong's Legislative Council. "The eyes of the world are on Hong Kong, and many free people everywhere are standing with you."

The Consequences OF Climate Change
By: Callum M

The sky is a dark brown. It's hard to see the sun and the clouds that were once a lush, fluffy, white. It’s hard to see through the eye holes in your mask. The thick rubber band that holds the mask on your face irritates the back of your head, you want to take it off, but you know if you would take the mask off, you would begin to choke on the dirty and poisons air that fills the earth.

That could be our future, the present the next generation of humans could live. Each day, more and more trash pollutes the earth. Each day, wildlife and ocean life becomes at risk. Of course, climate change has always been a thing, climate change has always been there it’s always existed, it's been a geological circumstance and a human-induced circumstance. But it is the rapid rate of climate change increase that worries scientists. Human activity has increased greenhouse gasses in the atmosphere since the Industrial Revolution. This leads to more heat retention and surface temperature. Atmospheric aerosols can alter climate by scattering and absorbing solar and infrared radiation and they may also change the microphysical and chemical properties of clouds. Sci-fi writers like Kim Stanly Robinson or Cixin Liu may have been right about the future of our Earth, a dark planet at the verge of death because its own inhabitants killed their own planet with their own doings. What can we do to stop or to slow down the process of climate change? Well we could start using solar electricity or use solar panels, instead of standard electricity. We could also stop or slow down the use of fossil fuels. But with great minds on this planet, we can create new technologies to “slow down” the process of climate change. Like Dr. David Keith, he created an invention that can suck carbon dioxide from the air. The future is in our hands, what will we do with it?

The Whistleblower
By: Noa F

The whistleblower starts of their main complaint with: “In the course of my official duties, I have received information from multiple U.S Government officials that the President of the United States is using the power of his office to solicit interference from a foreign country in the 2020 U.S. Election.” He (we know the pronouns from media leak) continues with second-hand information about the phone call and afterward events. The whistleblower triggered much debate, including a whole implement inquiry that continues to this day. It also triggered a second whistleblow, this time with firsthand information.
